the californian has a cccp and a couple of the very best lies, but this stomping, grisly, suspenseful, four-track assassinator tops the lot. you get plenty more prep and purpose, and a load more killing.

it is something of tradition for tosca to get their albums remixed. indeed, they once released a record comprised entirely of 13 mixes ofone song, 2002s *different tastes of honey*, variations on *honey* from 1999s *suzuki*. it is a way of keeping things fresh, injecting someuncertainty into proceedings, knocking things out of balance in order to check how they should be re-aligned. after releasing *odeon* earlier this year, tosca comes back with *tlapa - the odeon remixes*. *tlapa* meaning, this life arouses pure adventure. the remixes come from bredon moeller, joyce muniz, siler city, ltj experience, beat pharmacy, marlow & truby, sephane lefrancois, afg aka antye greie and rodney hunter. the double vinyl comes with a cd-copy included.
another handy 12 inch of dj tools, de- and re-constructed from the raw materials of james holdens *the inheritors* album and thoroughly road-tested in his own dj sets. this time it is the turn of trippy instrumental album interlude *the illuminations*. in its 12 inch version club incarnation, holdens mystical cascading arpeggios are juxtaposed with a skittering detroitian thump to cater for a multitude of bewilderment-inducing dancefloor moments the world over. the drumsolo strips things back to functional old school techno basics as we get to eavesdrop on holden jamming with his modified dr-110 drum machine. finally, the extended arpsolo draws out the melodies of the original into a dreamy boards of canada-esque bonus indulgence.
